Portfolio Update (Aug 2022)

The market continues its roller coaster ride, with the portfolio dipping to the same value as the start of the year and rising back up again. Interest rates continue to rise and its seems that almost are assets are down.

Managed to accumulate a few positions over the past months which should serve well in the future.

Portfolio Update

Growth Portfolio

BABA continues to hover within the 80-100 range, with recovery far from sight. Sitting at ~50% loss, making it the worst performing stock in my entire portfolio.

Index Portfolio

Monthly investment of S$2500 into this portfolio - continued to invest into the bond indexes despite the drop in prices due to the higher interest rates.

Important to stick to the portfolio allocation for Index investing, buy the laggard every month, and not let emotions cloud our actions.

Yield Portfolio

Bought OCBC when it fell below its NAV (on hindsight should have invested more). The 3 local banks continue to be solid companies - will continue to add more if opportunity arise for me to accumulate at near NAV.

Accumulated IREIT Global after it went Ex-Dividend. Steady fundamentals, big discount to NAV and at yield/risk reward is acceptable at the current price.

Final Thoughts

I didnt mention in previous updates but I've a small allocation to Crypto mainly in USDC, BTC and ETH. This was set aside as 'play money' and would be a bonus if the prices skyrocketed back to ATH.

However, the amount is likely to be gone as I've staked my coins with a lender, which have paused withdrawals. Small % from the overall networth perspective but still a considerable amount.

This episode reminded me of the importance of risk management and portfolio asset allocation. Bulk of the money should be invested in companies that are strong (Index and Yield stocks for me).

Risky or volatile assets should form a small portion of your portfolio. In the event of any write-off, it would not impact your lifestyle greatly.

If your investments made you lose sleep over it, likely you are over-extended.

Til then, stay safe and invest responsibly!
